I call him the Ansel Adams from the North. John Corvera earned his place in the cover of 2011-2012 edition of Can Pages (Canada’s version of the Yellow pages) with this photo of Crescent Beach, titled ” White Rock and South Surrey”.
Landscape photography is a whole different animal for me. I have so much respect for people like John who conquer technical odds in order to bring out the beauty of their surroundings. So what or who inspire this devoted family man and Registered Nurse to tackle landscape photography ?
I introduce to you, Mr. John Corvera.
Tell me about yourself.
I’m a father
a husband.. a son
a Registered Nurse by profession
and an aspiring Landscape Photographer.
What got you started in Photography?
Always wanted to take pictures ever since i can remember , sadly I couldn’t afford back then . I could still remember that I have a roll of Black and White film that I didn’t get the chance to develop due to financial reasons.
The advent of Digital Camera somehow gave me a chance to pursue those missed opportunities.
4 years ago , my wife bought me my first DSLR ..
There was something about the stuff I see. I often see them in the most positive way. The fact that I’m here and see these beautiful places really started and flared my desire to shoot.
You are so gifted with capturing landscapes. Any tips you would like to share?
Shoot , there is no other way .
I would suggest that people choose a favorite spot , somewhere near that they could easily comeback anytime of the day , anytime of the year and practice.
Seldom do people notice that a difference in minutes makes a handful of effect on a single picture shot in the same place.
Attend a workshop. I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone that workshops saves you time, money and precious invaluable missed opportunities. That is why I’m preparing/producing Chasing Light Canada 2012 this August 9,2012 by no other than premiere Canon ambassador Edwin M.
Congratulations on having one of your photos on Can Pages! How did it came about?
You… Michelle Garthe Hahahaha!
Last year I asked you if its worth it to make your own website for a hobbyist like me even if you didn’t have much equipment. I think you said, “If you like it and it makes you happy, somehow it pays for itself. Go for it!” LOL.
It did… One of the people who search for potential cover materials saw my one month old website, then contacted me to submit pictures. Got lucky to have one chosen and the rest is history.
Who or What inspires you?
My Family, first and foremost. I’ve been blessed to have a loving wife , supportive kids … mean friends…lol
My close Friends were the meanest critics out there, but they made me a much better shooter knowing I could somehow proved them wrong… in a good way though…
Second, is the emerging Filipino Descent Kick Ass Shooters. The likes of..
Michelle de Guzman Garthe
They inspire me to at least attempt to make a difference. They do make other photographers feel that they should learn more and not scare them to try what they are doing.
What else do you do in your spare time?
I spend it as much as possible with my family. Working with Geriatrics made me realize the importance of family time. Time passes by. Even millionaires lose time. I might as well spend it to what matters most… Family
Any links/websites where we can find you?
Here is my website .. always under construction
and my FB page which is much more updated.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, JOHN!
